What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
How long is long when it comes to living one’s life?. I’ve known people who sadly died of disease before they were 30 and the comments show that often they’d have packed more into their short life than someone who just went about their humble life their way.
Each to their own is my thought on the matter. I make everyday count. My dear Mother had this attitude so I guess I inherited the thought pattern from her. She had some interesting sayings in life like – don’t put off tomorrow what you could do today because one never knows when they go to sleep at night whether tomorrow will come for them.
Smile at everyone you meet you never know the difference that acknowledgement could make.
I liked this one as well. It’s not what you give as a gift to someone it’s the thought that counts! And to add to that give it today, tomorrow may be too late.. She would say it’s not necessary to wait until their birthday or Christmas to give them the gift.
She grew up in the Depression years of the 1930s in Australia then followed by the 2nd World War. They were tough times there were no government hand outs like there is now and everyone was poor. In Australia people are doing it tough now but I’ve yet to hear of anyone killing vermin ( rabbits or rats) to cook and eat. I remember a man in a butcher shop saying people these days don’t know poverty no one has been into my shop asking for ‘bones for the dog’ when the butcher said the bones would have been to make soup or stew for the family.
A lot of those people from those times lived to be well into their 90’s or even over 100 years of age.
I’ll be happy to go when my ‘ numbers’ up. Technology might constantly improve things so we can have a more substantial life but human error is often our downfall.
If I did outlive my parents age I’d like it to be a memorable one where I wasn’t a burden on others or society. A life that I could share my experiences with younger folk, where I would pass on things from my past and tell them to ‘ not’ dream a dream’ but to go out there and seize the opportunity with both hands and enjoy the experience.
