Do you have any collections?
I think having a ‘collection’ is a heredity trait in our family.
My father collected stamps and coins, and my mother collected rocks. I had an uncle who rebuilt old cars, so he collected lots of stuff that others considered to be junk – and me – well, I’ve had numerous collections over the years.
If one has no control over their collections, then the collection can become a horde.
So my first collection had a limit, I wasn’t going to. let it get out of control like my older relatives. I collected teddy bears.
I worked at a large department store that brought out a different Teddy Bear each Christmas, so maybe that is where my desire to own more than one or two came from.
As a child, our toys were precious, and I remember my teddy more than the dolls.

My first husband died some 20 years ago, and someone gave me a teddy bear so I would not be lonely. Before I knew it, I had quite a lineup of bears on the shelf. They weren’t any special expensive type of bears, just your run-of-the-mill varieties. Some stared at me from 2nd hand charity shops, and I felt the need to buy them because they looked lonely.
I remarried and moved on from where I had lived, and yes, you guessed it, the bears had to go…the whole 37 of them, but I kept one – my favourite. I call him Truff ( truth), and there’s another story attached to that!
Truff the bear and I have travelled the world and had the most amazing adventures. He has appeared in more photographs than me and one day will appear in a book..
Oh, and I do have another teddy bear that someone gave me since, but no, my collecting days are over.
