Self care is not all about slapping on a facemask or getting polish on my nails or zoning out with zen or stepping into a mindfulness space…no… yes, well, it is all of those things!
Self care is something that is as individual as a fingerprint. It is as important as breathing because without self care, our bodies & minds become run down and very unwell.
From a very young age, I used to grip my left arm near the elbow… with my right hand..it was a comfort thing..a sense of calm would overtake my emotions. I suffered a lot of abuse as a child, and I imagine that this sense of touch was a security thing.
So I’ve always touched my body as a form of comfort and self care. I used to sit and comb my hair because it made me feel good.
Self care self-preservation is what keeps us going each day. I mostly start the day with reading the bible and then eat some fresh fruit whilst waiting for my hot water to boil for my coffee.
Then I read my daily planner, and I’m set for the day. If something isn’t going the way I planned it, I adjust my thought pattern to practise my mindfulness.
Life is not an easy road without self care.

How do you practice self-care?
