Life is so much more fun if there is a Pet living amongst the humans in the household. My mind has been cast back to when I was about six years old and even though I lived on a farm where there was an assortment of life besides the human being species. We had cows, bulls, horses, pigs, working dogs and cats and many feathered varieties of birds, having an animal that was classed as a pet animal was in a different category owning a menagerie of animals on the farm.
Then we were given a tiny Foxie terrier called Scamp, he was only seven weeks old, his mother had been bitten and killed by a snake. He certainly changed our lives completely
He slept inside the house in a little basket on the floor in my parents’ bedroom until he grew big enough to jump up on the bed and down again on the floor by himself. He had his own special food bowl to eat his meals in and he didn’t like sharing his food with the cats.
Having a pet teaches the whole family about responsibilities and routines.
He became part of our day-to-day lives and years later when we purchased a car he thought it was his right to ride in the car each day we went out.
Even though he couldn’t speak our language he was clever enough to work out what was being said, like a human being he would sulk if he didnt get his own way.
He always worked out whether he was going to be invited to go in the car. At weekends we would go for a drive through the country and he adored being out, he received treats like the humans lovely scoops of icecream in a bowl.
Yes one would say he was maybe just a little but he certainly became our best pal for the thirteen years of his life and he will never be forgotten.
