What is your favorite animal?
What…just one favourite – gosh that is a bit mean?.Animals are my favourite creatures but I’m going to talk about my favourite domesticated animal and that is a cat.
I had many cats when I was growing up on a cattle farm and our cats were allowed to live inside our house..they were dual purposed and were friends and mice ( vermin), catchers as well.
Much later on life I purchased a cat as a companion animal and she was my best friend for fifteen years … she was much more than a cat. She understood if there was strangers outside at night or just other animals! She could tell me when I got home if there had been people knocking on the door…when I was unwell she would lay beside the part of my body that suffered the most discomfort.
She had her annoying habits though like to her, breakfast time was somewhere between 5 -6am and if a gentle pat with the paw didn’t arouse me she would resort to a gentle nip with her teeth on my arm..yes seriously mmm,, it took some learning experience for her to understand that breakfast was due when I woke up not when she felt like it.
But all too soon the years went by and she developed a disease where her teeth had to be extracted and before I knew it she was gone..over the rainbow bridge.
I will never forget her and I’m not allowed pets where I live now so I just look through the pictures of her with a tear in my eye. She was human through and through but wore a fluffy coat and had a v8 purr – what more could anyone ask of a breathing loveable companion.
